Alexis Tricoire's mission
The use of plants is inextricably linked to Alexis' interior and furniture designs. "Plants are essential in all my designs. My mission is to bring people more in touch with nature. I want to integrate nature more into everyday life," says the Plant Designer.
INSPIRING PROJECTS WITH PLANTS AT HEIGHT
Alexis Tricoire has a wide range of projects to his name. One of his most famous projects was the greening of the Angers train station. For this, he created a hanging forest with indoor trees and hanging plants. With his height approach, he made sure that more space was freed up on the ground and he made optimal use of the large glass arch, which forms an opening to the city.
WORKING WITH PLANTS AT HEIGHT YOURSELF
Do you want to work with plants at height at home? Then Alexis says there are three important factors to take into account.
- Think about how you're going to attach the hanging plants. Do you have a beam on which you can hang them? Should you attach a rail or a ceiling hook? Look up, and discover the possibilities.
- Take into account the amount of light a plant needs. If you have south-facing windows, choose sun worshippers. If you hang the plants in a less bright location, choose plants which need less sunlight. Also take the incidence of light into account. Plants always grow towards the light.
- Think about how you are going to support the plants in their growth. Can they climb onto something? Or will you guide them with cable clips, as we did here with the tendrils of the Scindapsus?
PLANTS THAT DO WELL AT HEIGHT
Plants that Alexis says do well at height are grapevines and climbers, such as asparagus fern and monstera minima, and hanging plants that have a lot of volume, such as the spider plant and Aeschynanthus. Never worked with plants at height before? Then don't set the bar too high and start with plants which require little care, such as Tillandsia. This plant has no roots and therefore requires no soil. The only thing you need to do is spray the plant every now and then. Tillandsia is perfectly suited to being floating greenery.
