We feel happier and can recharge with plants in the home, and we concentrate better with plants around us while we work. Living with greenery at home has a long-term positive effect on our lives. Our leafy friends, which convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, boost the air quality of the house. And that's not to mention their aesthetic value. In short, there are more than enough reasons to style our home with plants. But which one should go in each space? Follow these tips to choose the right plants for every room in the house.

Home office

Plants come in all shapes and sizes, which is good news for home offices both large and small. Choose varieties based on the effect they have on you: round, soft shapes and muted colours will help create a relaxed atmosphere while you work. Other, more brain-stimulating shapes are Cactus, Polkadot Begonia and spiky Aloe. If you're struggling to decide which plants will work best, bring them all into the space and go from there. And if you're looking for a professional change of direction, echo the desire for a switch at home and create a new jungle interior with your work table at the centre of the forest.

HALLWAY

Plants will give you a warm welcome as soon as you open the front door. Placed in the hall, they create a calming entryway for you and any guests you have to your home. The large leaves of Anthurium Clarinervium have a beautiful design that captures the attention of passers-by. Or opt for Alocasia Zebrina, another striking plant. Its long, spotted stems end in leaves that resemble the ears of an elephant. Placed in the hallway, this plant announces newcomers with a fanfare.

BEDROOM

Sleep has become the latest arena for personal improvement, just like sport. A good night's sleep leaves you feeling recharged and refreshed for the new day. It's a very important part of our wellbeing, and plants can help us sleep effectively.

Take the Calathea Orbifolia. This plant makes it clear when we should sleep. When it gets dark, the plant closes its leaves. In addition, the soft shapes of its large round leaves create the perfect bedroom mood.

While sleeping, we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. The concentration of CO2 in our bedroom increases slowly during the night, which can cause us to wake up feeling drowsy. If it's not possible to open a window, introduce plants such as the Ficus and Kentia, which work hard at converting CO2 back into oxygen. The leaves will also immediately improve the humidity of the room.

LIVING ROOM

There's usually more space in the living room to play with style and presentation. A good way to complement your plants is by using a semi-transparent room divider. Let your plants peep out here and there and press some leaves against the room divider to create your own personal green work of art. As for which plants to choose, a mix of large and small varieties works like a charm. Consider, for example, the banana plant, Areca palm and rubber plant. Style them with a few smaller plants such as the Chinese money plant, Aloe and fern.
